What If He Succeeds?

This worries me. What if Trump is proved right? What if his tariffs are successful; manufacturing returns to America; he is instrumental in bringing peace to Ukraine, Gaza and Kashmir – because diplomacy really is just a matter of property ‘deals’; he builds his luxury condos on the Mediterranean coast; all the expelled Palestinians are genuinely happier living in Jordan; and so he succeeds in ‘making America great’ again in all kinds of ways? What then for us, his fiercest critics?

We would still of course be stuck with his awful personality: the narcissism, stupidity, malice, small-mindedness, bullying, lying, incipient fascism and all the rest; which make him difficult to like as a man – but which we might then have to admit could have contributed to some of this success.

Which is why I guess most of us on my side of the debate don’t want him to succeed. Is that mean?

A Brexiteer friend accused me of actually wanting the economy to fail so that I could be proven right all along. I like to think not, but there may be an element of truth in it. It’s a paradox.

Luckily Brexit, Trump’s tariffs, the culture wars, and all the other current far-right shibboleths are such inane policies so incompetently delivered that there is no chance they’ll “work” in any sense outside Truth Social. So the problem doesn’t arise.

The difficulty is working out what Trump does actually intend.

Re-trenching a dying empire is very far from an inane policy but hardly chimes with the concept of what most would consider to be Making America Great Again. Of course the USA did become “great”, as in wealthy, behind tariff walls and that seems to be Trump’s parameter.

Whatever the result Trump will claim it is what he intended, and that is in line with Cohn’s Three Rules which Trump applies. It will be “beautiful”…lol

Just because a person is dislikeable doesn’t preclude them from being right.

The US Empire has been dying for some time (probably since the supposed zenith in the 1990s…as all empires do…discuss…lol..) but few (Tod…?) recognised it.

Trump quite possibly does recognise it, and that the USA can retreat into isolationism and be prosperous and secure. Again…from Republic to Empire…then back to Republic…is that possible? Probably not…the Monroe Doctrine will still apply…

Anyway I hope Trump is right. The world will be safer without Neocons blundering around.

    Agreed!
