I’ve been trawling through history – or as much of it as I know – to find if there has ever been a madder, more stupid and more corrupt national leader anywhere in the world, than Trump. Any ideas? (Most other fascist leaders have been brighter; and Caligula’s horse probably wasn’t corrupt enough.)
Clearly Americans are going to have to take a long hard look at their beloved Constitution, and at their electoral practises, when this is all over. If it ever is.
How about Biden?
2. Actually announced publicly that the aim was regime change in Russia. Stupidity personified.
3. 5% for “the big guy”…or whatever percentage it was in his son’s dealings in Ukraine. And that’s just what is publicly known. So corruption in spades…
Boris Johnson?
1 . Lockdown…madness. Sweden didn’t and had better results. He didn’t “follow the science”…at all.
2. Believing he won an election on his own merits when Farage had stood down his candidates to allow him to win…stupidity.
3. Convincing Zelensky not to take the Istanbul peace deal by saying “the West” would “do whatever it takes”. Corruption…really of the worst sort leading to thousands of deaths. No evidence he got paid…yet, but he seems rather well off all of a sudden…
The grim reality is that most are mad, stupid and corrupt.

Hello Bernard, Indeed – we live through an extraordinary period of what might be called “history”…when does “politics” become “history” – you should be able to answer that as I am mere History graduate…..not a Prof. A long time ago – about 46 years ago, I had occasion to meet and be introduced to Maureen Reagan. It was a social event in California – in connection with a sailing regatta in which I was taking part. She was very well-read, and very complimentary about her father’s acting career, so far – but most of all, about his trade union activities….she had been hired to play the piano during the drinks reception. We – in Europe- were all a bit dismissive of Reagan the president, until he came up against Gorbachev…..and his speech about tearing down the Berlin Wall was a real ground breaker……. For what it’s worth, I don’t think Mr T comes anywhere near Reagan’s grasp of the realities of where we are. It is difficult and disturbing to try and im aging what al his acolytes are whispering in his ear….after all, to measure the man, as Machiavelli said, just look at the people who surround him……it will take some time to winnow out all the appointees from the system…..after, we hope, Mr T has gone away.. But will he? Best to all in Sweden.. John E
PS: the reception was in Noel Coward’s villa – it was quite bemusing…..
