Excellent article here, from yesterday’s Guardian, but by an American-born Dagens Nyheter correspondent, Martin Gelin (https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Gelin).

They’re thinking of tightening their gun laws here in Sweden. The shooter in this case had four of them, quite legally (for hunting), including automatics. The Swedish equivalent of the American gun lobby, mostly Right-wing Sverigedemokraterna, is against any limitation; but I imagine the measure will go through.
He was obviously targeting immigrants, by the way. They were on a course called Svenska för Invandrare (Swedish for immigrants), or SFI. I took the same course myself when I arrived, as a sort of ‘refugee’; to little effect, I must confess. But it means that I could have been in his line of fire.
From the article by Martin Gelin:
“The centre-left opposition, so eager to win back voters from the far right, tends to run from any opportunity to call out racism or protect migrants, in order to avoid being attacked as “naive” by nationalists.”
John Crace in The Guardian:
“Most people would be hard pushed to see much difference between Labour and Reform on the issue [of immigration] these days.”
Labour has been concentrating its fire on Badenoch and are already celebrating her imminent demise. As much fun as that might be, the fact that they are sinking her by accusing the Tories of an “open borders experiment” leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If Reform really does take over leadership of the right, it will be a tectonic shift in British politics, which will last beyond 2029. I guess Morgan McSweeney fancies Labour’s chances in a 2029 election against Farage. Even if Labour survives for one more election, I believe the long-term damage will go much deeper (cf. the end of the post-war consensus). I was, however, heartened to see how Guardian readers were largely dismayed to see Labour borrowing Reform’s clothes.
