The criminal incompetence of the current British government in the face of both Brexit and Covid is breathtaking. But that’s what you get when you elect a joker as PM at the start of a national crisis. It takes me back to an episode in my early life, when I participated in a ‘mock’ school election – held at the same time as a general election in the country – when another joker won; to the huge annoyance of the Headmaster, whose idea the ‘mock’ election was, in order to give us a serious lesson in our civic duties.
